View All Supported DocumentsThai National ID Card
Primary resident ID for most Thai onboarding. The 13-digit personal number anchors checks, and older card versions still appear in live operations.
ThaID Digital ID
DOPA’s ThaID supports digital identity journeys using card scan or NFC chip read plus facial biometrics, which is useful for step-up proofing where accepted.
Thai Passport And E-Passport
Common fallback for residents and a primary document for non-residents. Thai e-passports follow ICAO standards and support MRZ and biometric checks.
Thai Driving Licence
Useful as a supplementary local photo ID in exception handling, after a primary Thai ID card or passport check has already been completed.
Identification Card for Persons without Thai Nationality
Relevant for some non-Thai residents in local processes. Higher-risk regulated journeys often pair it with a passport or other immigration evidence.
Business Entity Identity
DBD Business Registration Certificate
Confirms legal existence and core registration data. It is a standard first check in Thai KYB, supplier onboarding and merchant due diligence.
DBD Juristic Person Profile
Used to review status, address, registered capital and filing history before approval, periodic refresh or escalation in higher-risk cases.
Business Licence Or Foreign Business Licence
Used where sector rules or foreign ownership rules apply, so teams can confirm the entity may lawfully operate in Thailand.
Business Tax Identity
Tax Identification Number
Links the entity to Revenue Department tax records and remains a core data point for merchant, vendor and counterparty onboarding.
VAT Registration Record
Shows VAT registration status for entities that must register, helping teams validate active trading status and tax footprint.
Ownership & Control (UBO)
Shareholder List Copy
Used to evidence ownership layers and spot nominee or concentration issues before UBO review, screening and approval.
Directors And Authorised Signatories
Confirms who controls the entity and who can bind it, which matters for contracts, approvals and higher-risk counterparty reviews.
UBO Declaration And Controller Pack
Helps teams review shareholder structures, directors, authorised signatories, and UBO declarations to identify and evidence beneficial owners and controllers, especially where DBD filings alone do not clearly show control.
Languages We Cover
Document Text Handling
Thai-script source records and Latin-script passports often sit in the same journey. Shufti keeps extraction and review aligned across both formats.
Name Matching Controls
Thai names, prefixes and English renderings can shift across IDs, passports and translated records. Shufti supports tolerant matching with review rules.
Evidence Consistency
When a user moves across a selfie, document and follow-up evidence, Shufti helps tie the same person to one case, even across script changes.
GOVERNANCE & CONTROLS
Audit-Ready Decisions, Lower Operational Drag
Fewer Avoidable Re-Submissions
Thai ID cards, passports and supporting documents are often captured on mobile under glare or low light. Better prompts reduce repeats before the case reaches operations.
Cleaner Audit
Trails
AMLO, BOT and sector regulators expect defensible records. Shufti keeps evidence, review notes, list hits and decision reasons attached to each case.
Better Name Matching Outcomes
Thai script, English passport renderings and title changes can break strict matching. Shufti applies configurable controls so more cases are clear the first time.
One workflow, one
back office
KYC, KYB and AML decisions sit in one operational view, which helps Thai teams manage retail onboarding, merchant reviews and entity screening without tool sprawl.
National ID-first flow design
Build journeys around the Thai National ID card first, then fall back to ThaID, passport or supporting evidence when the user or product line requires it.
Thailand IDV/KYC Challenges
Thai Script, Latin Matches
Thai civil records, local IDs and English passport renderings do not always line up cleanly. Exact-match logic drives false exceptions and manual review queues.
Mule Account Pressure
Thailand’s tighter anti-scam and mule-account controls raise the cost of weak onboarding. Missed checks can turn into blocked payments, alerts and faster escalations.
UBO Evidence Gaps
Thai KYB often spans DBD records, shareholder data, tax evidence and AMLO-aligned UBO checks. Missing one layer slows approval and weakens audit defence.
Mixed ID Versions
Older Thai ID cards still circulate beside newer cards, passports and digital identity flows. Poor images and capture errors create avoidable re-submissions.
Shufti’s IDV/KYC Solutions for Thailand
KYC Solutions
Fast track customer onboarding and authentication with real-time identity verification solutions.
Face Verification
Selfie-to-ID checks help cut impersonation, shared-account misuse and mule-account risk in remote Thai onboarding, where anti-fraud pressure is rising.
.Age Verification
Use selfie-based age estimation first, then trigger Thai ID card or passport verification when policy or product rules require stronger proof.
.Address Verification
Shufti can verify any address-bearing document, including house registration records, MEA and PEA electricity bills, MWA and PWA water bills, and Bangkok Bank or other Thai bank statements.
.Document Verification
Check Thai national ID cards, e-passports and supporting documents across Thai and Latin text, helping teams handle glare, old card versions and weak mobile capture.
.KYB Solutions
Business Verification
Validate DBD registration data, tax IDs, VAT evidence, directors, shareholders and UBOs in one case, which matters when Thai entity reviews span several official records.
.Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD)
Escalate high-risk countries, complex ownership, nominee concerns or unusual merchant profiles with structured evidence, review notes and decision trails ready for audit.
.AML Screening
Utilise artificial intelligence models and 1700+ sanction and watchlists to identify and prevent money laundering attempts.
Business AML Screening
Screen Thai and global sanctions, AMLO designated persons, PEP exposure and adverse media across the entity, directors and controllers, not just the company name.
.
Transaction Screening
Support ongoing monitoring where high-risk country exposure, fast funds movement or mule-account patterns need quicker review, suppression logic and escalation.
.Built to Fit Thailand's Compliance Landscape
Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO)
AMLO sets Thailand’s AML/CFT rules, CDD standards, UBO expectations and reporting channels. Shufti keeps evidence, screening results and case records ready for review.

BOT regulates banks, e-money, payment providers and merchant due diligence. Shufti supports identity proofing, merchant onboarding evidence and stronger escalation where BOT expects tighter controls.
Securities And Exchange Commission Thailand (SEC Thailand)
SEC oversees securities businesses and AML controls in capital markets. Shufti helps capture customer data, review outcomes and screening evidence for account opening and monitoring.
Office Of Insurance Commission (OIC)
OIC regulates insurers and electronic insurance activity. Shufti helps insurers verify applicants, structure evidence packs and support digital sales, servicing and claims journeys.
Department Of Business Development (DBD)
DBD runs Thailand’s juristic person registry and filing services. Shufti helps bring entity status, registration evidence, shareholder data and director details into one KYB workflow.
Revenue Department
The Revenue Department issues tax IDs and handles VAT registration. Shufti helps teams validate tax identity and keep tax evidence attached to the entity case.
Department Of Provincial Administration (DOPA)
DOPA underpins Thai identity cards, civil registration and ThaID. Shufti helps build ID-first flows around Thai ID cards, ThaID and related record consistency checks.
Office of Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC)
The PDPC sits behind Thailand’s PDPA framework. Shufti supports controlled data handling, access rules, retention design and deployment choices aligned to Thai privacy expectations.
Deployment Choice
Available via Thailand cloud regions such as AWS Asia Pacific (Thailand) and Google Cloud Bangkok, or on-premise for stricter governance and residency control.

Configurable retention, access and deletion settings help support PDPA data handling duties while preserving KYC and AML evidence needed for review and escalation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the primary KYC document in Thailand?
For most resident journeys, the Thai National ID card is the primary document. Passport and other supporting documents matter, but most domestic onboarding flows are designed around the national-ID-first path.
Can we use a passport if national-ID capture fails or the customer is overseas?
Yes. A Thai passport is the practical fallback for overseas Thais, passport-led onboarding and cross-border use cases. It is also useful where MRZ-based extraction is preferred.
Can ThaID or NDID fit into the onboarding flow?
They can be relevant where your programme supports local digital-identity steps. ThaID is DOPA’s digital-ID app, and NDID is operated by National Digital ID Co., Ltd. (a private joint venture supervised by ETDA), providing eKYC and authentication infrastructure primarily for Thai financial institutions.
What KYB evidence is usually needed for a Thai company?
In practice, the core pack is the DBD registration certificate, director authority, shareholder list, tax ID, VAT evidence where relevant, and extra UBO evidence if control is not clear from filings alone.
Should screening cover only global sanctions lists, or Thailand-specific lists as well?
It should usually cover both. AMLO publishes Thailand and UN designated-person references, so domestic expectations are not met by global-only screening. Entity, director and beneficial-owner screening should all be considered.
Does Thailand use goAML for reporting?
Thailand does not publicly use goAML for AML reporting. Reporting entities submit suspicious and cash transaction reports to AMLO through its own systems, primarily AERS, with ERS used for certain electronic transfer or payment reports.
How should we handle Thai-script names and Latin transliterations?
Treat them as linked forms of the same identity, not separate records. Thai domestic records, passports and user-entered names may not match character-for-character, so the case file should preserve both script forms and any supporting change-of-name evidence.
Can KYC and KYB data stay in Thailand?
Thailand now has live in-country cloud options, including AWS and Google Cloud regions, alongside local providers such as AIS Cloud, True IDC, NT Cloud Solutions and NIPA Cloud. The right choice depends on your residency, sector and operating model.
How do we reduce drop-off and retries on Thai onboarding?
Start with Thai National ID where possible, use passport fallback when needed, keep Thai and Latin-script matching in the same workflow, and route proof-of-address flexibly because residence, billing and registered addresses often differ.
