Qualified services can only be provided by approved QTSPs that meet the requirements established under the eIDAS framework.
What Is the Role of a QTSP Under eIDAS?
The eIDAS Regulation provides the legal framework for electronic identification and trust services across the European Union. It defines the requirements that providers must meet to offer trusted digital services. A OTSP’s role is to provide qualified trust services while maintaining the security and reliability required under eIDAS. QTSPs are responsible for ensuring that their qualified services operate according to regulatory requirements, including secure certificate management, protection of signing data and maintaining the reliability of their trust services.
How Does a Provider Become a QTSP?
A Trust Service Provider does not automatically receive qualified status. It must complete a formal assessment process before it can provide qualified trust services. The provider must notify the relevant supervisory authority and submit a conformity assessment report demonstrating compliance with the regulation.
