What should banks look for in a KYC solution?

Choosing a KYC solution for a bank comes down to a handful of questions, and the answers show quickly whether a vendor fits your risk appetite and your markets. These are the seven questions we would put to any KYC vendor, including us.

  1. 01

Does it verify the documents your customers actually hold?

Ask for coverage by country and document type, not a headline total. Shufti verifies identities in 240+ countries and territories and reads ID documents in 150+ languages.

  2. 02

How has the liveness check been tested?

Look for independent presentation attack detection testing. Shufti’s liveness is tested to iBeta Level 3 under ISO/IEC 30107-3, and deepfake detection runs as a separate layer.

  3. 03

    What happens after onboarding?

A check that stops at day one leaves gaps. Ongoing monitoring should re-screen customers against sanctions, PEP and adverse media lists and update their risk when something changes.

  4. 04

Can your team change the flow without a release?

Risk-based journeys change often. Shufti’s no-code Journey Builder lets compliance teams adjust verification steps by risk level and geography.

  5. 05

Could an examiner follow every decision?

Every check should leave an audit trail. Shufti records each step in case management and holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO/IEC 27001 certification.

  6. 06

How many integrations will it take?

Separate tools for KYC, AML screening and fraud multiply the work. The Shufti Global Trust Platform runs them through a single API.

  7. 07

Is it ready for the EU AMLR?

The EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation applies from 10 July 2027 and expects customer due diligence to continue through the whole customer relationship. Ask how a vendor re-screens customers, records each decision and updates its flows as the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) finalises its technical standards. Shufti’s checks are configurable by market, and our EU AMLR compliance guide covers what changes.

How does Shufti support KYC for banks?

Shufti verifies identities for more than 2,000 businesses in 240+ countries and territories, including banks, fintechs and payment providers. Banks use the platform for customer onboarding, screening and ongoing due diligence, and each part is available on its own or together.

In our view, a bank should check document coverage for its own customers, independent liveness testing, ongoing monitoring after onboarding, no-code control over verification flows, a full audit trail, and how many integrations KYC, AML screening and fraud checks will need.

Perpetual KYC (pKYC) keeps customer due diligence current between reviews. Instead of re-checking every customer on a fixed cycle, the bank re-screens customers and updates their risk when something changes, such as a new sanctions listing, adverse media or new customer details.

The EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1624) applies from 10 July 2027. It sets one rulebook for customer due diligence across EU member states, and the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) is preparing the technical standards that fill in the detail.
